My FAVORITE thing

Have you guys seen The Sound of Music? If you have then you know the song where Julie Andrews belts out "These are a few of my favorite things..." In it, she goes on and on describing the little things in life that make her happy - "girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes" is one. I have to admit IN PRINT that I love that movie and that song. It IS the little things in life that make me happy. The perfect pen; bubble gum with a fountain Coke; a clean house; the smell of freshly cut grass; a new magazine in the mail; an unexpected note from a friend... I could go on & on like Julie Andrews, but don't worry, I won't sing about them. EVER. (Sorry, Ruba!)

My MOST favorite thing though is finding that book. You know, the one that you absolutely, positively cannot put down. It's been quite sometime since I found one of those books. The last one was Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, but that was nearly a year ago! I've read a ton since then - mostly young adult stuff - but I FINALLY found one yesterday that I could not tear myself away from: Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. YOU HAVE GOT TO READ IT!

I started it at school. While y'all were watching A Midsummer Night's Dream, I read a bit. And then I picked the book up at lunch and read at the table with my homeroom. When I got home it was the first thing I did - after I let Cooper do his thing! I didn't put the book down until 9:45 and only then did I put it down because I FINISHED IT! It was that good!

Now Mrs. Bailey wants to read it because it's go the science stuff - the moon & gravity. Ms. Tuggle wants to read it because she & I like the same stuff (Lonesome Dove and Twilight). There's only one copy in the media center though, so you might have to fight over this one! If you're still looking to hit your 25 books, this one MUST be one you use to get there!

i saw in your post that you mentioned something about twilight. everyone always said it was good, but of course i was the slow one and never got around to reading it. after looking through your post (and noticing the twilight mention), i decided i should finally start reading it. it's AMAZING! i ♥ it!! i'm almost done, and i can't wait to read the second and third book.
see you monday(:

I disagree. really really really hate Twighlight, New Moon and all of that series... It's ummm... not my sort of thing. I guess I'm more of an odd book reader. I don't like reading books that I know someone else will like because to me it's like sharing a best friend- I just can't do it. If someone else ends up loving the book I love or has already loved it then it's not my cup of tea. But the point is- YES I'M NEARLY DONE YAPPING- that the book is way too cheesy, corny, lovey-dovey romantic for me. I mean... a VAMPIRE??? You're kidding me right? I read that and had to reread it until it sunk in that this book was dumb. (Ainee lended it to me- big mistake.) That's it. Sorry if anyone wants to give me a black eye right now, I'm available after class if you want to come by and do so.

my favorite book that i have read this year is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. its a classic but most definantly a guy book. T=the book is funny and has a good message. it also has pictures that the narrators has drawn that are really funny. i recommned it to guys.

I have to agree with Mollie. Twilight is a book i had heard of a lot. I am glad i got around to reading it. It's really not a book i would be interested in with the whole vampire thing but i liked it a bunch! I read New Moon and i enjoyed it also but not as much as Twilight. It took me longer to read it. I kind of don't want to read Eclipse because i don't want to not like it, but I'm working on getting to it. I want to see the movie of Twilight I'm sure it won't be too great but i still want to see it.

Hey everyone! I just recently finished reading Inside Delta Force by Eric Haney... for the 4th time! It's an awsome book about the author - Eric Haney - going through the rigorous training to become a member of the elite anti-terrorist squad. I never knew how hard it would be to do the things he had to do! And that was just the Selection part. He had to run a total of 100+ miles carrying a 70+ lbs. rucksack and do a bunch of other stuff! It would have really sucked if he didn't make it into the squad. Well, anyways, I just want to tell you that you should definately read this book and respond saying what you thought about it! See everyone at school tomorrow! =P

By the way, has anyone read the Warriors series (Warriors; Warriors: The New Prophecy; and Warriors: The Power of Three)? I've read all 15 books 4-5 times each! They rock! Respond if you have read them. =P

Hey!! ^_^ This is Polly. I made an account during science pull-out, (which is where I am now...) so I'll probably post something when I get home today... or after I get home from practice. And I will be having an debate with Laura about the Twilight issue very shortly... if she's willing... otherwise it would just be a pointless rebuttle...lol. That does make me understand something about her though. It's a very unique point of view, which is respectable, but like the majority of those people who have read the Twilight series I have to disagree with you fully. I'll say why later. -adraene ^_^

To Susana:
I'm glad you liked Twilight and New Moon. I encourage you to read Eclipse because personally, I think that Eclipse is the best of the three books.

To the Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse fans:
The fourth book, Breaking Dawn, comes out August 2, 2008.

To Eragon/Eldest fans:
The third book, Brisingr, comes out September 20, 2008. Also, there will be a fourth book in the series even though it was originally going to be a trilogy.

Here's a good book: The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak.
I really don't know how to explain it--but it's one of "those" books. It's one of those books that leaves an impact on you. It's one of those books with a meaning. It's is one of those books that's a true original. ^^
The ending made me cry like crazy. I was listening to music(Tohoshinki =]) while I finshed this book--the feeling was just...powerful(??? Sry, I can't find a good word-_-)I think this feeling was one of those once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing.
In other words, I enjoyed this book very very much, and I hope you all will read it~~~~~~<3

I am going to place a hold on it but I think it will be a while....Did I mention that I am still waiting for "New Moon" to come in?

Omg!!! You guys have to read this book "So You Call yourself a man" by Carl Webber. Its a really great book but its kind of on a mature level! I like reading books with a-lot of drama invovled, so thats why i picked this one. So if you like reading books that concerns relationship problems, then you should totally read it!

I just finished Lonesome Dove and have started Streets Of Laredo, the next in the series of four. Lonesome Dove was incredible but it ended rather quickly and I thought the loose ends might be answered in Streets Of Laredo, but so far they haven't after 60 pages?????? What happened to Clara and July? For those of you who have read the book. Any insight, and those who haven't it's incredible...

For those of you who need a good book to read to fill up your reading list, I HIGHLY recomend that you read Maximuim Ride The Angle Experiment. this book starts fast and never slows down. It's a great book about six mutant kids who can fly! While they try to find out about who they are and live their lifes these, wolf like man creatures are chasing them trying to bring them back to the dreaded school.
I loved this book, and i'm already on the 2nd one. trust me its REALLY GOOD!

hi hiiiiii~ this is ainee ^0^
Anyways, it seems that everyone wants to read Life As We Knew It and so do I~! But right now, I'm reading New Moon, the second book in the Twilight series. I don't really like reading a different book while reading one...but New Moon is just going a bit too slow for me...so far? It may get better, but I still need to reach my 25 books, and I'm sorry New Moon, you're not helping me muchiies -__-; However, I LOVED Twilight!!! It was a book that was hard to put down and I really enjoyed it, unlike some people [pat. >.<] I mean, yeah it's highly unlikely anyone will fall in love with a vampire...but that's what's the fun is~ Books help you find, imagine, and enjoy another, different world, no matter how realistic or weird it is. I don't find it "corny" at all. hmph. haha~

Right now i am very disappointed in new moon because it is moving so s.l.o.w!!! so i have put it down for awhile and i read sula, which was incredible!! it was so different from anything i have read before, which is what kept me interested along with the characters and the plot.... definitely a must-read for all! i just started uncle tom's cabin yesterday, and i am on the 4th chapter or so and have already started to see what ms.tuggle was saying about the characters being "flat," but thats only a few of them and actually the book is really good. i think the author might have done that on purpose to make the reader pay more attention to the overwhelming message in the beginning of the book, which is that although some slaves were treated better than others, they were still treated as slaves. even the more reasonable plantation owners still had the mindset that they owned someone. another really good book is "the davinci code"!!!! its so suspenseful and a book for guys OR girls. i have read it 3 times and its still really awesome!
by the way, have any of you read "a member of the wedding"? its a book on our college bound reading list. i read it for the second quarter abstracts and i want to get someone elses take on it because i'm not quite sure what to make of it.

i would absolutely LOVE to read Life As We Knew It! If only i can get my hands on the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, the book i'm reading now is called One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones. the so-called "chapters" are short but, it's hilarious and a great book to read!

I thought I would be able to get on the computer yesterday, but I didn't get to since I got home later than I thought I would. (Wow...way too many "I"s in that sentence...) Ok, so...for the argument against Laura. Yay! Ainee is on the same track I am. In what way, may I ask, is Twilight CORNY?!!!! I found it to be slightly strange in the beginning...but different in an intriguing way. I kept thinking, "this is boring...sounds like other books to me..." at first...until the Cullens came into the picture. I thought, "Is this going to be like the popular people or something?" and then I figured out that they were some type of paranormal creatures...after she had that dream and all the foreshadowing and everything...and just to say, Bella's dreams were really interesting...and they gave hints about Jacob becoming...uhh...what happens in the second book. (almost ruined it!! but didn't...phew...) Anyway...I just thought the book was really, really good. It was like so many other boy-meets-girl stories...but so incredibly different. Stephenie Meyer is an awesome writer. She plays up foreshadowing in small ways, but in very clever ones; and her wordings actually sound like my own thoughts. It's just.....wow! But if you say you don't like things after so many other people like them...does that mean you'll stop liking The Bell Jar just because so many other people are reading it and falling in love with it now??? I don't get it. I like your need to be different...but really? Obssessive much? I am just really...ticked....that you don't like it. Have you never even heard anything about Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice??? (Which by the way, if you liked Twilight book, Interview is very similar...but she's a horror writer so...not for people like ainee.) IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT A VAMPIRE AND A MORTAL!!! AND AGGHHHH!!!!!....You have good taste in literature most of the time...but I just disagree FULLY. I'm going to find a way to convince you that you like this book in the most civilized way possible...but please, tell me, in what way was it any of the horrible adjectives you used? It's not that lovey-dovey whatever you said it is. It's suspenseful and actiony...(well it was in my mind)...GRR! I want to say why it's so good but I don't want to ruin it for people that haven't read it. The only thing I wish she hadn't done, although it made me pick it up immediately, is told us that Edward was a vampire on the back cover, ("How could someone fall in love with a vampire?")...it would've made it even more a page-turner because you had no clue what he was...then she does all that research and then you find out...so...yeah. She could've said something else...but whatever. Point taken?

I'm just going to recommend the last book I read. Death in Venice by Thomas Mann. Some would call it creepy for it was mostly to do with a young 14 year old boy being obssessed about by an aging writer.

Hola! I just finished reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (yes Sanjay, I’m already aware that multiple trees grow in Brooklyn...), which was a very good book. The plot is very simple, but the way that the author writes makes it a lot more interesting. Right now I'm reading Life of Pi which is kind of boring (repetitive), but still very good- I went through the beginning of the book thinking that Richard Parker was a man, not the tiger! One of my most favorite books ever is Trickster's Choice...it is probably a very good book for both guys and girls (everyone seems to love the Twilight series- they were great! - but they seem a little bit on the girlie side).
- Katie R

campanita said...

never mind. Life of Pi is extremely not boring. the guy is sitting there in the boat, ripping the head off of turtles and birds and other animals (and he's supposed to be vegetarian!)while a huge tiger is living with him. lots of blood, guts and other gory details. definatly a book for both genders.

-Katie R

Polly said...

To Clint: OH MY......GOD...please help this poor little soul whom does not know about Twilight. May God bless thee, unfortunate fellow....LOL. Um...so...the back of the book!!
"About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him--and I didn't know how dominant that part might be--that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was undconditionally and irrevocably in love with him."
That pretty much tells you what it's about...or all you need to know for starters. What I would tell you is... (*thinks*)...so...it's about this girl who moves from arizona to forks, washington, (near seattle) and goes to a new, smaller school. Things are pretty boring until she sees this group of very...might you say...beyond-belief-looking teens. A range of ages and all look completely different, yet so much the same--they're all VERY beautiful--and (The main character's name is Bella, by the way,) Bella finds out from a new friend of hers...(whose name escapes me at the moment...)that they are the Cullens and she gives them background. And then she eats lunch...blah, blah. There was one of them that stood out the most to Bella though and the friend (AH! her name was Jessica) told her that his name was Edward and he was in their grade. It gets increasingly interesting after that. People say it's really girlie, blah, blah...romantic lovey-dovey, and corny (from Laura)but I don't think it is. It IS romantic but it's a darker, more serious, life-threatening, exciting, dramatic, actiony, teenage-angst and problem-ridden...WOW kind of romantic. I love it...but Laura hates it. I guess it's one of those books that you either completely fall in love with or you absolutely hate.

Well, I would have to say that I have two favorite books. Like every other girl one is Twilight...!
I LOVED IT! It got to the point where I couldn't read fast enough and I would accidentally skip a part from going so fast. But I'm sure someone's already said that.

My second favorite book would have to be When We Meet Again!
It was SO sad but yet SO happy! I think I cried at the end. I want to find another book just like it.

hi guys!
this blog is funny, some books have been talked about a buzilliongagilliontrillion times, (twilight & life as we knew it,) so i believe i will have to read them. they can't be TOO bad if all y'all are so obsessed!
books i like:
-well, there not as intense(brain wise) as a lot of these other meaningful books, but i really liked the uglies series, and it wasn't just a chick or teen, meaningless series (in my opinion...) there were some morals hidden (exciting!)
-i really like to kill a mockingbird, which im sure everyone knows, if they haven't read it, because the character's, especially scout, are awesome, & i'm really interested in law & court cases/lawyers, so that was particularly interesting
-i really liked catcher in the rye and farenheit 451. i think catcher in the rye was a book you like or totally hate, because of the narraration. farenheit 451 was great, and it had real meaning.
-and there was one book on the cbrl that i really really liked about a boy in the south, and his family and their relationships. i think it was set in commerce?? it was really fun to read, set in the old south in the summer. i read it by the pool, it went quick. :) cant wait for summer!!!!!!!!!

well, map tomorrow, what great fun! good luck.
only 18ish days left!!

I put spaces in between the characters so it wouldn't make what I typed turn bold.

1. For bold:
< b >

(except no spaces in between the characters)

whatever you want to type in between...then

< / b >

(and again, no spaces in between the characters.)

to end it.

2. Same with italics...or anything else...
