Advice for Future McNeeley Students

So my little 8th grade darlings - soon to be high school punks :)- this is where I would L-O-V-E for you to post any tips, hints, advice or warnings to next year's 8th graders for surviving the coming academic year with me. You can comment on anything specific (i.e. summer reading, Holocaust unit, Elizabethan fair, abstracts, reading logs, etc.) or everything in general. What do you wish you had known BEFORE you came to my class?

Here's Some advise for future 8th graders for Ms.McNeeley's 8th grader advanced ELA class:

1.)NEVER turn in late assignments because there will be severe consequences.
2.)ALWAYS behave for a substitute when Ms.McNeeley is not around because she doesn't play when it comes to subsitutes.
3.)NEVER become rude or disrespectful to Ms.McNeeley because you will suffer severe punishment
4.)AlWAYS leave your drama at the door because if you come in Ms.McNeeley's class with drama, she will have no sympathy for you on her time.

Theres tons of work in this class and you can pass if you keep up with it. There is no "free time" in this class at all and if you watch a movie its forwhat shes teaching. If Ms. Mcneeley picks on you, she means to do it because youre annoying her and youve gotten on her bad side and she will hate you for the rest of the year. The Elizabethan Fair is really fun.

hey did any one notice if you hit space bar like twenty times to center a word the word still doesn't center. how annoying... that should be fixed.

You need to know that there is a lot of work. There are book lists, and Elizabethian Fair, abstracts, monologues, reading logs, and a lot of other stuff. WATCH OUT FOR THE HURLEY(THE LONG WOODENN STICK THING). Do not insult St Pat's Day, or any other irish thing. DO all the work. Learn about the Holocaust AHEAD of time. Read Anne Frank, or you wll be in the dark. Become very, very orgnized. Get used to playful banter.

Tips for future 8th graders:

1. Get a calender and put EVERY SINGLE event on there, such as tests, quizes, project due dates, sports practicies, etc... It helps you be ontrack for everything.

2. Using the calender, plan your projects and pace yourself so that you do not procrastinate. Plan every step of the way and check your progress every now and then. Procrastinating is very hard to do in 8th grade with so much things going on at once.

3. Don't hesitate to ask questions. If you don't get how to do an assignment, it's better to ask then to do it uncorrectly.

That's it for now! As long as you do your best and have positive attitude, 8th grade will be a breeze, and you'll end up actually enjoy it!!

Hey everyone! Future 8th graders better read this comment closely if you want to stay alive in Ms. McNeeley's class...

1.)Behave for a substitute unless you want to recieve several demerits!
2.)Unless you want to fail, get yelled at, or severly punished, turn in all work ON TIME!
3.)Act mature and don't act rude or be a pain-in-the-butt or else Ms. McNeeley will personally remind you how pain feels.

Well, that's all and I hope you enjoy 8th grade and being in Ms. McNeeley's class! I had fun...

P.S. - The Elizabethan Fair was awsome!!!

Helpfull tips for Ms. McNeely's class

Before you read this helpfull info just know if you are indeed going to spend the rest of your year in 8th grade with Ms. McNeely as your ELA teacher just know this lady don't play! It will be pure work and no sleep for the rest of your miserable 8th grade year. Thankfully you have me to give you some helpfull hints...

1. All ways, and I mean All ways do your readinglogs!!!

2. Right down the name, author and date finished of the the books that you have read for your Booklog. Trust me, do not wait till the end of the year to do so.

3. (Boys only) Don't have long curly hair. (Sam)

4. Always study when she says go home and study. Don't you dare touch that XBOX!

5. Pay attention in class. Rumor has it that a kid was tapping on his desk instead of paying attention so she got her hurly and cut off his fingers with it.

6. Don't complain!!!

7. Almost all the assighnments you will recieve will count as a large portion of your final grade so don't screw up. Quality not quantity.

8. And finally, LIVE!!!

the.skittles.consumption. said...

+ read! there'll be a book log to keep up with, so read a lot. try reading a lot during the summer and keep up with the books you read, so you don't have to worry about catching up to 25 books at the end of the year.

+ behave. if Ms. McNeeley isnt joking, she's NOT joking.

+ listen up. pay attention because it'll be hard for you if some things are missed. just missing one day of class really got me confused one time.

+ speak up. if you have a question, don't be scared to ask it. it's better to ask it and be sure with it, then to go do whatever the wrong way.

One of the biggest things Ms. McNeeley has taught me this year is time management skills. Which means, don’t be like me in learning it the hard way. Try cramming in 16 reading logs in one day—it is NOT something you want to be doing.

I mean, as long as you manage your time well, you’ll be able to handle the workload. Being the procrastinator I am, I always have those Tomorrow-it’s-due! freak outs once in awhile. Minjung (who always finishes everything like, a week before it’s due) just smiles at me, gives me the usual “You can do it~!”, and happily walks off to her warm bed. While I—on the other hand—stay up late till three in the morning to finish that abstract (SO glad I am done with THOSE!). I have to admit: Minjung, you’re my hero~! (As dorky as that may sound).

Just remember to never play with time, or Ms. McNeeley for that matter, and you will make it through~~~^^

I am not wishing you the best of luck, but the best of time managing!

Ok people Ms. McNeleey is not the teacher to mess with, if you don't belive it just wait until somebody talks back or does not do what he said. Another thing that is one of her pet peeves is not turning in work or making a stupid lamebrain excuse because belive it or not she is not dumb, and she wont take it. If you think she is kidding about the essay over Anne Frank she's not she means it so be ready. yall can do it....notttttt

hey everyone(:
we're almost done with school!! here's a few tips before the 2008-09 school year starts!
-RISING 8TH GRADERS-
1) read, read, and read some more! as Yang said, there's a book list that you have to have completely filled out by the end of the year (which includes 25 books). you may think that it's not a lot to get done, but with the workload that you'll get next year-and the stress of extra curricular activities you may do-putting off your reading till the very end isn't a smart thing.
2)don't be a know it all. ms. mcneeley is smart and trying to argue with her is just waste of your (and the rest of the classes') time. not only will you be proven wrong, but you'll most likely make a fool of yourself(:
3)write down all the assignments ms. mcneeley gives you. i know all the teachers always say that writing homework down in your agenda is important, but it's especially true in ms. mcneeley's class. there were a couple instances when i had night-before-panic when i completely forgot about a paper or a reading log that was due the next day. sometimes ms. mcneeley will give you some leeway on something you didn't turn in on time, but don't rely on her letting you off the hook - it's not a good strategy.
4)ms. mcneeley's class IS fun - you will do some new and exciting things. her class was definitely one of my favorites because of the challenges and learning experiences i had. i hope i'm allowed to say that without getting in trouble(:
good luck next year!!!

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
Haha....get it?
Ok, so my advice is to learn how to manage your time! I would defiantly get a calendar (like Minjung said)...it might seem dorky, but it really does help. In general, over the summer perfect your awesome organizational skills, because you are going to need them! Seriously, I think I had five different composition books, notebooks, binders and books at one time. Which brings to another major tip: have about five composition books ready to use.
You guys are going to have a different schedule than we did (you'll have Ms. McNeeley all year long), so just keep up with the work, but don't get too stressed out. If you do get stressed out, then drink tea, because it's magical.

McNeeley 101 Survival Tips:
1 I'm a procrastinator when it comes to really long assignments, which you'll probably get more of than me so don't do that unless you feel like you REALLY want to pull an all-nighter, but try to save that one for college! :P
2Well, this year I had to do the assignment to read 25 books by the end of the year... which I am not even close to completing... so there's your proof and listen if you trust me... maybe if you don't too!
3Don't forget any books you're supposed to bring regularly even if you don't use them because sometimes you need them suddenly, and WHOOPS, there goes a hall pass! It's okay if she tells you not to bring it for a while, though.

Here's some tips for the students who are going to have Ms. McNeeley's 8th grade advanced ELA class for next year:

1. Don't, I repeat, don't slack off in her class, even a little laziness will harm your grade.

2. Never put "a lot" together!

3. Don't even try to make excuses of not turning in your work, they won't work.

4. Don't sleep in her class, in a few seconds of sleep, you will hear a loud sound next to your ear, which is the Hurley that she has in her possession that thunders on your desk!

Evan said...

You guys will prolly have a hard time once or twice, but its doable. First off, ALWAYS do what she asks you to do. If you start a habit of not turning things in, the probability of you getting a break when you need help drops severely.

So form good work habits. There's nothing that she assigns you that you're incapable of doing, but you have to schedule these things and try not to do them at the last minute. It'll really drag you down to hurry the writing process like that.

Also, make sure you're reading all the time, because reading counts a lot in that class.

Hey, future 8th graders! Here's how everything works in Ms. McNeeley's class:

1) Be ready for TONS heavy work loads(whether you're in her advanced class or her regular class!).
2) Turn EVERYTHING in on time. She will not (I repeat "NOT")have any time to give you any sympathy whatsoever. But, she will have plenty of time to give you a demerit! :)
3) Stay on the RIGHT side of the hall when you "walk it out."
4) BEWARE OF THE HURLEY! She will theaten you but, she will NOT hurt you. Trust me!
5) Be good with substitutes. If she finds out that you acted a fool in her class while she was gone, she will absolutely blow her top!
6) Stay on her good side. Don't be the one that she'll hate(James, Clint, Moore, WHATEVER! This rule goes out to you!)
7) Speell yuor wurds write!(This is a joke, Ms. McNeeley! Don't kill me please!!!!)
8) Know how to spell alot!(Ha! Another joke!:) Once again, don't hurt me!) Remember, IT'S TWO WORDS!
9) As long as you stay on top of things and turn in everything, you will survive her class.

Once you enter the Domain of McNeeley, remember this, you live under her rules. Her rules will not kill you, just stick to common sense. Turn in all assignments on time, no matter what. If you are absent, get it from a classmate. You will be happen you did because once you see what you have to do, you will be dropping gumdrops left and right. I am just kidding. If you simply learn to manage your time well, you will do well. If you do not know what I mean, here is a translation: NEVER PROCRASTINATE!!! If you get an assignment ahead of time, do it. Do not leave it for later because you may have something else on top of that. (Yang totally agrees with me. Plus, she is sitting right next to me.) Behave, no matter what. Act as if your parents are watching you !! Even if you are not within sight of McNeeley, behave. Do the same when she is watching you or suffer the consequences. PLUS, mind your manners! (No nose-picking, or anything like that. You know what I mean!)My advice for you rising eighth graders is truly endless but I know that you all will do well if you simply USE YOUR HEAD and STAY FOCUSED!

Hey, soon to be 8th graders. If your looking for a fun easy class. Then Ms.McNeely's class is not for you. Im gone to go ahead and warn you, she is not the type that is sympathetic to girl drama. You will have tons of loads of work to do. Every once in a while you will have to do a big project. It will seem imposssible to do at first. If you wait till the last minute, then prepare not to get a good grade. But if you jst focus and do what she wants you to do it will be ok!

Hey 8th graders (want to be!) lol
The reason I say want to be is because you want to be until you get in Ms. McNeeley's class. Well first if you’re like me don’t really want to do stuff and just want to pass easily ... get over it because she is not the one to be like that with! Oh and an advice ... DONT EVER, EVER, EVER TRY OR THINK THAT YOU ARE GETING A ATTITUDE WITH HER! That’s just a battle you will not win!
Love Kourtney

Firstly, NEVER procarstinate. Trust me, I learned that the hard way.
Secondly, do NOT get on Ms. McNeeley's bad side. I did not make that particular mistake but I saw many people who did. For future troublemakers, I have a word for you: hurly.
Thirdly, READ! You can use books you read during the summer for your booklist which requires 25 books. Also, you have reading logs that you need to read for.
Overall, just be respectful, work hard, and don't act like a lunatic and/or idiot in her class and you'll survive.

Hi soon-to-be 8th graders. here are some things you have to know
OK. First thing you got to know is that Ms.McNeeley is a nice and friendly teacher, when pigs fly.
Here are some things you might want to know:
1.never turn in late papers and stuff. She will kill you.
2.turn in good, nice work. don't do it the night before because she will know. also, do not copy and paste. Teachers know if you do.
3.read books over the summer. it will help you if you do.
4.Just don't get on her nerves. Behave and you will do fine.

O.K. If Mrs. Srpadlin is anything like Mr. Spradlin, upcoming 8th graders might have to work a lot harder to prepare for this class.

1)You will definitely have to read at a pretty quick pace, and always have a book handy in most periods, lest you spend your precious time at home reading when you have something more fun to do.

2) Don't you DARE TURN ANYTHING LATE, which is self exclamatory.

3) This has been repeated on previous comments, but I promise, someone will do this and suffer consequences: be on your BEST behavior when Ms. McNeeley is away and a substitute present. She is very serious about that and people have been written up, or worse, for the slightest inconvenience.

This is probably going to help you in the start of the year:
4) It seriously would help you to read the summer reading list (especially Anne Frank's Diary of a Young Girl.) You might have to write an essay the first few days in the class, like we did.

... Man you guys better read these comments, we didn’t have these things when we were going to 8th grade! Good luck.

So dear future 8th graders.

Miss McNeeley's class is one of the most exciting English class you will ever have.
For me at least.

Here are a couple advices to keep up.
1. Make sure you read. You will have many reading logs due and need 25 books by the end of the year.
2. Holocaust and Elizabethan is very interesting if you don't slack off. You can really learn a lot.
3. Miss M. doesnt take any stupid crap. Just behave. Dont act an idiot because she will make you look worse!
4. She will always be your teacher inside or outside of school!
5.Be good to substitutes! You should always act better than you would for the actual teacher.

:) Hope you all have a wonderful year!

Hello future 8th graders!
The work is hard and there is a lot of it. If you keep up with the dates and stay organized you'll find that it will help you get through the year. No matter what, do not procrastinate. I know from experience that it is not a good thing to do. It will lead to very little sleep. Ms. McNeeley's class will be challenging. If it is not, then Ms. McNeeley would not be doing her job. You will get pushed so that you can get better.

1. Do not fool around with Ms. McNeeley.
2. Turn in work on time.
3. Read many books over the summer so that you do not have to cram 25 books to read during the school year.
4. If you can work on it ahead of time, then do it.
5. Write down your homework, you are going to forget things otherwise.
6. Be good 8th graders and do what you are told and don't act bad. If you act appropriate, you should be able to stay on Ms. McNeeley's good side and not get in trouble.
7. Don't act like idiots, you all are smart and should be able to behave. You going to the 8th grade and should know when it is the time to play and when it is the time to work.
8. Keep a positive attitude because you might make yourself do worse if you have a bad attitude.

~Use the advice I just gave and the advice of my classmates.~
If you don't, suffer the consequences.

Y'all are in for a major shock next year!
Tip 1)NEVER EVER TURN THINGS IN LATE! Everythinggggg counts in her class!
Tip 2)We're all really smart people (for the most part) but don't come into her class thinking that you're so smart you're not going to have to work! You're in for a reality check if you think that.
Tip 3)Never do your projects the night before. If you do you're goinggggg to get a really bad grade. It's easier to do the assignment way before it's due and not have to stress about it in 1st period!
Tip 4)Don't ever ever ever think you can pull something over McNeeley's eyes! IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK. [Save yourself the humiliation ;)]

Hope yall have a wonderful year next year =]

HAHA okay rising 8th graders!

here are a couple of tips:
read ALL of your summer reading books because she just might make you do something with them and you dont want to feel stupid.

When ms.M is mad dont try to make her even madder becuase then your making the next class suffer and if she sees you doing something wrong, then she will fuss at you....so dont do it.

If you start slacking off the first part of the year it gets REALLY hard to try to make up for it, soooo YOU CANT SLACK OFF!

READING MAKES HER:)))

She enjoys getting books as presents! especially if she just cant wait for it to come out.

NEVER ask for free time, cause its not gonna hapen.

&hearts irish people

Lsn to all her stories because somewhere in every story Feeney drops in lol!

NO DRAMA

NO WHINING

LOTS OF QUESTIONS!

DONT HESISTATE TO ASK!

NO ATTITUDES!

TALKING BACK DOES YOU NO GOOD!

always check her websistes for updates on projects etc..

if you lose something a million times, WHICH YOU WONT! then your not going to get another one.

Late assignments= -F

once all the missing work piles up on you you WILL be failing. im not oging to lie her class is not that easy, unless you do ALL your work and stay on top of it then you will have a A+

TURN IN:
reading logs ( they are really not that hard yall)

Any other stuff

BOOKS THAT YOU HAVE USED! if you dont turn in a book that you borrowed, then she will be FURIOUS!
sooo either dont borrow a book or make sure you dont lose it!

WARNING

if she says study, then you just go home and play your Wii. NOT! NOT! NOT! NOT! NOT! if you touch tht wii( or any other game system!) you will fail! this is no joke! WHen she says study you better study until you can mumble them in your sleep.

LIES DO NOT HELP YOU!
if you forgot to do an assignment, then just tell her that you totally forgot to bring it and bring it the NEXT day! dont be scared to bring it to her she wont eat you, she`s not the cookie monster for cryin out loud! if you forgot it at home then you beter call your mom and tell her to bring it! MOVIES=WORK RELATED
BOOK suggestions, or should i say GOOD book suggestions= getting mentioned a lot! haha in a good way.

if she picks on you it could mean that your just fun to pick on, or....it could mean that she ABSOLUTELY HATES YOU! just kidding.

so pretty much do the work, study, no attitude, late work bye, no drama, books are welcome, calender is the best idea, a lot is 2 words!

ANY rumors that you have heard about her hitting people with the hurley is NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!! Get it straight.

p.s.

Eat LOTS of candy in her classroom!

P.s.s.

DO NOT EAT CANDY YOU SILLY KIDS, no seriously dont eat candy unless you want to be so scared that you wont ever be able to ea candy ever again!

P.s.s.s.

MS.M
is actually pretty cool, and nice just dont try to get on her bad side if your good she`s good back but to sum it up she is awesome!

P.s.s.s.s

Yall got to 8th grade your apparently smart enough to be there, might as well do something!

one more tip that i think would be really helpful that i didn't add to my original list:

-READ THIS SUMMER. like i said before, you have a book list which includes 25 books (she'll count books you read this summer!!).
instead of trying to cram it all in during the year, you can get a lot done with 3 months. take a book to legion with you every once and a while; it's relaxing AND you're getting work done!

-mollie

Anonymous said...

-make sure you're organized and turn things in on time. :)
-make good first impressions, being respectful will get you farther than you think
-like mollie said, I read a lot in the summer that helped with book log, abstracts, etc.
-DO NOT procrastinate on ANYTHING!(especially, especially the Elizabethan fair project)
-have a little fun. :p

some advise for Ms. Mcneeley's advanced ELA-

READ! READ! READ! Make sure you do lots and lots of reading. Reading is the best thing you can do to prepare for this advanced class.

Once in the class, the most important thing is not to Procrastinate. Make sure when you start an assignment you have lots of time ahead of you to do it.

I'm sure you have heard of the Elizabethan project, it requires lots of work and is a project that you should be terrified of. This is an example of something that you should not procrastinate on. I can not stress this enough, do not procrastinate especially on this assignment.

cheerio said...

Hello! My advice is to follow all these smart people's comments who have posted already; there's not much I can add. If McNeeley does the word part quizzes next year (she probably will), make sure you keep ALL your flashcards because she isn't joking about that final test being hard! There is NO turning in late work unless you want to explain your lame excuses to McNeeley. And she is a mastermind dectective in the FBI so don't try to pull anything past her!!! just kidding (kind of)... Don't be afraid to ask questions and sound stupid, because you will be better off in the end. Have fun with the Elizabethan Fair- it's WAAAY better if you do something you are interested in, something fun and creative. Well good luck... you're gonna need it!

Hello 7th graders. 8th grade is not as bad as 6th grade. In Ms. McNeely's class, the thing that could potentially bring your grades up the most are reading logs. Just do them every night, and you will be fine. Their really not very hard and shouldn't take you but five minutes. Other than that just do the work as soon as she gives it to you, and don't let her get a bad impression of you to soon.

ADVICE ADVICE:
1.) Behave when substite is there
2.) Leave drama at home Ms. McNeeley hates wasted time!
3.) Do work on time it makes every one life easier
4.) Do your summer reading you never know you might need it (YES!!)

2: just do the work, you might find that some of the projects are fun

3: being polite is always a good idea...

I'm not going past three...

Dear future, soon-to-be 8th graders,

Some of these tips have been mentioned over and over again and you may be thinking "oh they're just saying that for nothing" but believe me if you don't, you'll be in over your head. You guys are lucky to be getting these tips from the students themselves. The only tips I got was not to procrastinate and that tip was given to us by Ms.McN from another older student. When I heard this tip, I didn't think it was not that important because I didn't get the tip from the actually student themself but now I realise that not talking that tip seriously was a BIG MISTAKE!

NEVER procrastinate (for those who don't know what that means, it means to wait to do everything at the last minute) Don't even think about procrastinating during the Elizabethan Fair. If you do anytime you'll be in for a lot of sleepless nights and believe me you'll need your sleep. How do I know such much about what happens when you procrastinate? Because I did and if I could go back in time and start 8th grade again I would not procrastinate. (procrastinating is one of the sure ways to get bad grades in Ms.McNeeley's class and in other classes too.) 8th grade can be challenging but it is also fun. The Elizabethan Fair is a lot of work but you learn some interesting facts and it is actually fun to present your project to other people.

I also suggest reading lots of books during the summer (and definitely read Anne Frank or your grade will drop dramatically for the first quarter). (I advise that you read lots of books while you can, in case you don't have time to read during the week for your reading log. If you read in the summer, you can use those books for times when you can't read.) And don't wait to do your reading log the day before it is due because they might take longer than you think.

Ms.McNeeley is cool but don't get on her bad side. (She has some cool and funny family stories but will never get told if you are bad)

She has a few simple rules: 1)know the due dates of all assignments! 2)actually turn in the assignments 3)no sucking teeth or suffer the consequences! Don't ever expect free time. Her class is not suppose to be fun; it's english! My advice for having a great year in her class is do it her way or fail.

warning Ms.MeKneely's class is not for the faint hearted and should not be entered by lazy people of trouble makers. The consequences will be severe for both including trouble at home for the trouble makers and trouble with your grades for lazy people

Hey future 8th graders (including my brother). You guys have a lot a head of you: tests, pop quizzes, finals, homework, etc. If you don't start now, you will regret it later, especially in Mrs. McNeely's class. Here are somre tips to get you started:

1.) Read, read, READ! A lot of people don't over the summer, but you should. You have to read 25 books by the end of the year, so get started now! If you don't, you will be WAY behind.

2.) Don't be late. Slackers fail. Turning in assignments late means getting percentage off. And don't forget-Turning something in late is better than not turning it in at all!

3.) Don't act up! This is a big, major, important rule! Behaving poorly means making Mrs. M mad...and that is bad, BAD news for you and everyone else!

Hope you follow these tips, and make it through the 8th grade!

Good luck,
